How It Began
From Humble Beginnings To Your Favourite Bakery
Sweet Grain was born from a simple idea: everyone deserves access to real, honest bread. Our founder, Esther Bastan, grew up watching her grandmother knead dough at dawn — a ritual of patience and love that would shape everything we do today.
In 2010, Esther opened a tiny shopfront with just a wood-fired oven and three recipes. Word spread fast. Neighbours became regulars, regulars became family, and that little bakery became Sweet Grain.
Our Philosophy
No Shortcuts. No Preservatives. Just Real.
We source heritage grains from local farmers, ferment our sourdough for 24 hours minimum, and hand-shape every croissant. Our ingredients list reads like your grandmother's pantry — flour, water, butter, salt, love.
We believe food should nourish more than just the body. Every loaf that leaves our oven carries the warmth and care of the hands that made it.
